Hooded wrap coat

EASY- ANOTHER GREAT hooded granny square jacket!! Make this jacket out of Bernat Berella “4″ in your favorite colors!

SIZES: One size fits all. Garment width across back at underarms and hips, about 22″; each front, 14″.

MATERIALS: Bernat Berella “4″, one 4-oz. skein white (color A), 2 skeins gold (B), 3 skeins each scarlet (C) and navy (D). Crochet hook size G, or size required to crochet to gauge.

GAUGE: Each square = 5-1/2″.

SQUARES: Make 32. With A, ch 5; join with sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in center of ring, * ch 1, 3 dc in center of ring, repeat from * twice more, end ch 1; join with sl st in top of ch 3. Fasten off A. Turn.
Rnd 2: Join B in any ch-1 sp; (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same sp, sk 3 dc, * (3 dc ch 1, 3 dc) in next sp, sk 3 dc, repeat from * around; join with sl st in top of ch 3. Fasten off B. Turn.
Rnd 3: Join C in any ch-1 comer sp; (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same sp, * sk 3 dc, 3 dc in next sp between dc groups, sk 3 dc, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in comer ch-1 sp, repeat from * around, end sk 3 dc, 3 dc in next sp between dc groups; join with sl st in top of ch 3. Do not fasten off. Turn.
Rnd 4: Ch 3, 2 dc in first sp, * (sk 3 dc, 3 dc in next sp) to corner sp, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in corner sp, repeat from * around; join with sl st to top of ch 3. Fasten off C. Turn.
Rnds 5 and 6: Join D and work as for Rnd 4, except do not fasten off until end of Rnd 6.

ASSEMBLING: For Left Front, joining squares from corner ch-1 to corner ch-1, sew five squares in a row, picking up back lps only, to form vertical granny square stripe. For right front, work the same. For back, sew two strips of five squares each and join them side by side. For each sleeve, sew strip of three squares. For hood, sew two strips of three squares each and join the three-square sides, then fold one three-square edge in half and sew together for top edge, forming hood 1-1/2 squares wide (from front to back) and two deep.

BODY: With D, make two 28-ch pieces and put aside to be used in forming armholes later.
Stripe Row 1: Working along one long edge of left-front strip of squares, with D, beg in first ch-1 corner and picking up back lps only, ch 3 (counts as first dc), * dc in each dc along square, 1 dc in joining row, repeat from * to end of strip, end dc in ch-1 sp-96 dc. Ch 3, turn. Working through the dc of previous row, work one more row dc with D. Fasten off. Turn.
Rows 3 through 10: Working through the dc of previous row and starting each row with ch 3, work 2 rows with C, 1 row B, 1 row A, 1 row B, 2 rows C, 1 row D. Ch 3, turn. (Note: Row 10 ends at what will be the lower edge of coat.)
Row 11: Dc in 68 dc, leaving last 28 dc unworked for armhole. Ch 3, turn.
Rnd 12: Dc in 68 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Rnd 13: Dc in 68 dc, then dc across one of the 28-ch pieces for back edge of left armhole-96 dc. Fasten off D. (Left back started.)
Rows 14 through 22: Working as for front stripes, work 2 rows C, 1 row B, 1 row A, 1 row B, 2 rows C, 2 rows D. Sew back squares to Row 22, picking up back lps only. On other long edge of back, starting at lower edge, work stripes and armhole as on left side. Sew right front squares to Row 22. Fold each front over back at armholes and sew shoulder seams from armhole edge to center of front square.

HOOD: Sew neck of hood to coat, front edges tog, easing center back square of hood into back of coat.

Front and Hood Stripes: Starting at lower right front edge, working along entire front edges, including hood, work Stripe Rows 1 through 10 as on the body, then work 1 more row dc with D. Fasten off.

SLEEVES: Along each three-square edge of sleeves, work Stripe Rows 1 through 10, then work 1 more row with D and 1 with C. Fasten off, leaving an end to sew underarm seam. Sew sleeves into armholes.

Woman’s Day Granny Squares #2, 1974

ANOTHER EASY ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL PATTERN!!!

SIZES: One size fits all. Garment width around lower edge about 40″.

GAUGE: For granny square, 3 dc = 1″; for body, 5 dc = 2″.

MATERIALS: Spinnerin Wintuk Featherlon, 2 2-oz. skeins green; Frostlon Petite, 5 1 -oz. balls green/blue mix; Susie, 9 100-gram balls dark green. Crochet hook size J, or size required to crochet to gauge.

SQUARES: Make 6. Note: Use one strand of Wintuk Featherlon and one strand of Frostlon Petite held tog. Ch 6, join with sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), work 2 dc in ring, * ch 1, work 3 dc in ring, repeat from * twice more, ch 1; join with sl st to top of starting ch-3, sl st in each st to ch-1 sp, sl st in ch-1 sp.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same sp, * ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * twice more, ch 1; join with sl st to top of starting ch-3, sl st in each st to ch-1 sp, sl st in ch-1 Sp.
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same sp, * ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * twice more, end ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; join with sl st to top of starting ch-3, sl st to next ch-1 sp.
Rnds 4 through 7: Continue as on Rnd 3, having 1 more 3-dc group on each side on each rnd. At the end of Rnd 7 there will be 5 3-dc groups on each side, and 2 3-dc groups in each comer. Fasten off. Block each granny.

HOOD: Assemble 4 grannies by whip-stitching them together, wrong sides tog, following chart below for placement of squares, and connecting point A to point A, and point B to point B. Then sew the seams from A to C and from B to D. Set hood aside.

BACK: Row 1: With Susie, ch 6; on right side, starting in first dc after any ch-1 corner sp of 5th square, * work 1 sc in each dc and ch-1 sp to next corner, ch 1, sk corner ch-1 sp, repeat from * once more, sc in each dc and ch-1 sp on 3rd side of square, end with sc in dc before next corner sp — 81 sc; ch 9, turn.
Note: The 4th side of square will be neck edge of back which will be sewn to hood later.
Row 2: Work 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 5 ch, * dc in each sc to next corner ch-1 sp, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in corner sp, repeat from * once, dc in each sc on 3rd side, then work 1 dc in each of next 5 ch, 2 dc in last ch, ch 2, turn.
Row 3: Counting turning ch-2 as first dc, work 1 dc in last dc of previous row to inc 1 dc, * dc in each dc to corner sp, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in corner sp, repeat from * once, dc in each dc to turning ch, 2 dc in turning ch for an inc; ch 2, turn.
Rows 4 through 7: Repeat Row 3 four more times, end at top right side edge of square; ch 2, turn.

Right Sleeve: Row 8: With turning ch as first dc, work 1 dc in last dc of previous row to inc 1 dc at top edge of sleeve, dc in each of next 38 dc; ch 2, turn — 40 dc.
Row 9: With turning ch as first dc, work 1 dc in next dc (no inc at this edge), dc in each dc to turning ch, 2 dc in turning ch; ch 2, turn. Continue in dc, inc’ing 1 dc at top edge of sleeve every row 8 more times -49 dc across last row of sleeve. Fasten off.

Left Sleeve: On wrong side, join yam in 39th dc from top edge on other side of back, ch 2 for first dc, dc in each dc to turning ch, 2 dc in turning ch for an inc at top edge of sleeve — 40 dc. Complete to correspond to right sleeve.

Back Lower Edge: On wrong side, join yam in dc after corner sp on lower edge, ch 2 for first dc, dc in each dc to dc before next corner sp; ch 2, turn. Work 9 more rows even in dc. Fasten off.

FRONT: Work same as for back.

FINISHING: Seam shoulders and top edges of sleeves; sew side and sleeve seams. Sew hood to neck leaving about 1-1/2″ free at top edge of center front square.

Tie: With 1 strand of Wintuk FeatherIon and 1 strand of Frostlon Petite held tog, crochet a chain about 60″ long. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Fasten off. Weave through dc’s around neck and tie in front.

Aquarius shag jacket

WHAT FUN!! Shag jacket for men, women and children.

Sizes: 26, 30, 34, 38, 42, 46 Chest and Bust sizes for men, women and children.

Materials: 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2 Color A for the back, 1 Colors B & C for the fronts, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3 Color D for the sleeves – Jack Frost Wintuk Knitting Worsted Type 4 oz. pull skeins; “K” Crochet Hook

Gauge: 3 DC = 1 inch; 2 rows = 1 inch

BACK: With Color A, chain 42, 48, 54, 60, 66, 72 loosely.
NOTE: When making a DC; yarn over the hook, insert the hook and draw the loop up about 1/2 inch, finish as usual.
Row 1: 1 DC in the 5th Ch, 1 DC in each remaining Ch (38, 44, 50, 56, 62, 68 DC and Ch 4).
NOTE: When making a SC; place the yarn over the left index finger, forming a 3 – 3-1/2 inch loop, insert the hook, yarn over the hook and pull through, leaving a 3 – 3-1/2 inch loop on the back of the work, yarn over the hook and pull through the 2 stitches on the hook.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 1 SC in the first DC, 1 SC in each remaining DC, 1 SC in the top of the turning Ch.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn, 1 DC in the 2nd SC, 1 DC in each remaining SC. The piece will measure 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23 inches wide. Repeat Row 2 and 3 for the pattern. Work even in pattern until the piece measures 6, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9 inches, or the desired length to the armholes, ending with pattern Row 2.

Armholes: Row 4: Ch 1, turn, slip stitch across the first 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8 SC, Ch 3, skip the next SC, 1 DC in each of the next 27, 31, 37, 41, 47, 51 SC, skip the next SC, 1 DC in the next SC, do not work across the last 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7 SC.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, 1 SC in each DC across, 1 SC in the top of the turning Ch.
Row 6: Ch 3, turn, 1 DC in the 2nd SC, 1 DC in each SC across. Repeat Rows 5 and 6 until the armholes measure 6, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9 inches, ending with Row 5. End off.

Right Front: With Color B, Chain 23, 26, 29, 32, 35, 38 loosely. Work pattern rows 1, 2, and 3 of the back. Piece will measure 6-1/2, 7-1/2, 8-1/2, 9-1/2, 10-1/2, 11-1/2 inches wide. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for the pattern. Work even in pattern until the front measures 6, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9 inches, or the same as the back, ending with pattern Row 2.

Armholes: Row 4: Ch 3, turn, 1 DC in the 3rd SC (for a neck dec), 1 DC in each of the next 11, 13, 16, 18, 21, 23 SC, skip the next SC for an arm dec, 1 DC in the next SC, do not work across the last 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7 SC.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, 1 SC in each DC across, 1 SC in the top of the turning Ch.
Row 6: Ch 3, turn, 1 DC in the 3rd SC for a neck dec, 1 DC in each remaining SC. Repeat the last 2 rows until 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18 stitches remain. Work even until the armhole measures the same as the back, ending with Row 5. End off.

Left Front: With Color C, chain 23, 26, 29, 32, 35, 38 loosely. Work the same as the right front until the piece measures 6, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9 inches, or the same as the back, ending with pattern Row 2.

Armholes: Row 4: Ch 1, turn, slip stitch across 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8 SC, Ch 3, skip the next SC for an arm dec, 1 DC in each of the next 12, 14, 17, 19, 22, 24 SC, skip the next SC for a neck dec, 1 DC in the last SC.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, 1 SC in each DC across, 1 SC in the top of the turning Ch.
Row 6: Ch 3, turn, 1 DC in the 2nd SC, 1 DC in each SC across to the last 2, skip the next SC for a neck dec, 1 DC in the last SC. Repeat the last 2 rows until 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18 stitches remain. Work even until the armhole measures the same as the back, ending with Row 5. End off.

Sleeves: With Color D, Chain 23, 27, 29, 33, 35, 39.
Row 1: 1 DC in the 5th Ch, 1 DC in each remaining Ch.
Row 2: Ch 1 , turn, 1 SC 1 n the first DC, 1 SC in each remaining DC, 1 SC in the top of the turning Ch.
Row 3: Increase Row: Ch 3, turn, 1 DC 1 n the first SC (for an inc), 1 DC in each remaining SC, 2 DC in the last SC (for an inc). Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until there are 34, 40, 44, 46, 50, 54 stitches. Work even without increasing until the piece measures 13, 15, 16, 17, 17 inches, or the desired length to the armhole, ending with Row 2.

Armholes: Row 4: Ch 1, turn, slip stitch across the first 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8 SC, Ch 3, skip the next SC, 1 DC in each of the next 22, 26, 30, 30, 34, 36 SC, skip the next SC, 1 DC on the next SC, do not work across the last 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7 SC.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, 1 SC in the 2nd DC for a dec, 1 SC in each DC across, do not work in the top of the turning Ch for a dec.
Row 6: Ch 3, turn, 1 DC in the 3rd SC for a dec, 1 DC in each SC across to the last 2, skip the next SC for a dec, 1 DC in the last SC. Repeat the last 2 rows until the piece measures 4, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7 inches, ending with Row 5. End off.

Finishing: Sew the side and shoulder seams. Sew the sleeve seams. Sew the sleeves into the armholes. Work 1 row of SC across the bottom, up the right front, around the neck, and down the left front. Cut the loops if desired, or leave uncut.

Smashing hooded topper

This beautiful light topper takes the place of the Spring coat – with lots more dash and style! The hooded, raglan sleeve is deeply fringed at the hem and sleeves. Close it with super shiny brass buttons. Made in Bernat’s Big Berella Bulky yarn.

SIZES: Small (8-10), Medium (12-14) and Large (16-18).

These directions are for small size (8-10). Changes for medium size (12-14) and large size (16-18) are in parentheses.

MATERIALS: BERNAT BIG BERELLA BULKY (4 oz. balls) – 10 (10-11); BERNAT-Aero afghan hooks Sizes 7:00 mm (New “K”) and 9:00 mm (“N”) OR ANY SIZE HOOK THAT WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW; BERNAT-Aero crochet hook Size 7:00 mm (New “K”), 5 buttons.

GAUGE: 3 sts = 1 inch; 2 rows = 1 inch

Note 1: To decrease: Skip first upright bar, sl hook under next 2 upright bars and draw up 1 loop ONLY – 1 st dec. Dec 1 st in same manner on 2nd and 3rd upright bars from end of row.
Note 2: To increase: Draw up a loop in next upright bar and under ch lying between this upright bar and next upright bar – 1 st inc.

AFGHAN STITCH: Row 1: Draw up a loop in each st of ch, leaving all loops on hook; take off loops as follows: Yo hook, draw through 1 loop, * yo, draw through 2 loops, repeat from * across row; the loop remaining on hook counts as first loop of next row.
Row 2: Skip first upright bar, draw up a loop in next and each remaining upright bar, leaving alt loops on hook; take off loops in same manner as on Row 1. Repeat Row 2 ONLY for afghan stitch.

BACK: Using larger afghan hook; ch 59 (59-63) sts. Work even in afghan st for 11 inches.

Shape Raglan Armholes: Row 1: Sl st over 2 (3-4) sts, work to last 2 (3-4) sts; take off loops.
Row 2: Work even.
Row 3: Dec 1 st each end of row. Repeat the last 2 rows 5 (4-5) times more. Then repeat Row 3 ONLY 11 (14-14) times – 15 sts remain. Fasten off.

LEFT FRONT: Using. larger hook, ch 27 (30-33) sts. Work even in afghan st for 11 inches.

Shape Armhole: Sl st over 2 (3-4) sts, work to end of row. Then dec 1 st at arm edge every other row 6 (5-6) times and EVERY ROW 9 (12-12) times.

Shape Neck: Row 1: Dec 1 st, work to last 4 (4-5) sts; take off loops.
Row 2: Dec 1 st each end of row – 3 sts remain. Fasten off.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.

SLEEVES: Using larger afghan hook, ch 43 (49-53) sts. Work even in afghan st for 10 inches.

Shape Raglan Cap: SI st over 2 (3-4) sts, work to last 2 (3-4) sts; take off loops. Dec in same manner as on back – 5 sts remain. Fasten off.

FINISHING: Sew sleeves to back and front armholes. Sew underarm seams.

Hood: Using smaller afghan hook, pick up 41 (43-43) loops across neck and sleeve edges. Work even for 5 rows. On the next row in at even intervals to 60 sts. Work even on 60 sts for 19 rows more. SI st across row. Fasten off. Fold hood in half and seam.

Left Front Band: With right side facing you and using crochet hook, starting at inc row of hood, work 52 (54-56) sc along front edge to lower edge.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st. Repeat Row 2 twice more. Fasten off.

Right Front Band: Work in same manner as left front band for 2 rows.
Row 3: Buttonholes: Ch 1, turn, * work 8 sc, ch 2, skip 2 sc, repeat from * 4 times more, work 1 sc in each of last 2 (4-6) sc.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, work 1 sc in each st and 2 sc under each ch 2 space.
Row 5: Ch 1 turn, work 1 sc in each sc up right front, around hood and down left front. Fasten off.

Fringe: Cut strands of yarn 10 inches long. Knot 3 strands in every other, st across lower edge and sleeve edges. Knot 10 strands in point of hood. Sew on buttons. Trim ends.
