Royal Society Glass Jackets – 1946

ROYAL PERLE, Size 5: 5 balls of Light Blue and 1 ball of White.

Steel Crochet Hook No. 7

BASE . . . Starting at center with Blue, ch 6. Join with sl st.

1st rnd: 12 sc in ring.

2nd and 3rd rnds: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around (27 sc).

4th rnd: Sc in each sc around, increasing wherever necessary to keep work flat. Repeat 4th rnd until piece is same diameter as base of glass. At end of last rnd, sl st in next sc.

SIDE … 1st rnd: Ch 3, dc in each sc around, sl st in top of ch-3.

2nd rnd: Ch 3, * dc around post of next dc, dc in next dc. Repeat from * around, sl st in ch-3, sl st in next dc. Repeat 2nd rnd 8 more times. On last rnd sl st in ch-3. Break off.

EDGING . . . Attach White. Working through front loop only, * ch 4, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around, sl st in 1st dc. Break off.

Make 3 more glass jackets like this.

Coaster Cups – 1950

MATERIALS-Lily Rug Yarn, Art. 241 :-1-skein each of desired number of colors. (each skein will make several Cups). 1-sk. Lily Six Strand Floss in a contrasting color for each Cup.

Crochet hooks sizes 0 and 5.

CUP

In Yarn and size 0 hook, ch 2, making 1st ch slightly longer than usual, 9 sc in long ch.

ROW 2-In back lps, make 2 sc in each sc. Mark end of rows.

ROW 3-(Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next) 9 times.

ROW 4-(Sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in next Sc) 9 times.

ROW 5 -Sc in 36 Sc. Sl st in 2 sc.

TOP – Ch 14, sk last ch, sl st, sc, hdc and 9 dc on ch. Holding back on hook the last lp of each dc, make 2 dc in end ch, yarn over and pull thru all 3 lps on hook at once (Cluster made). * Sk 2 sc on circle, sl st in next sc. Ch 1, turn, sk sl st, sc in back lps of next 9 dc, ** ch 5, turn, sk last ch, sl st, sc, hdc and dc on bal. of ch, dc in back lp of next 8 sc, a 2-dc Cluster in end sc. Repeat from * around, working to ** after 12th petal. Fasten off. Turn right-side-out. Lap last row over 1st row and tack tog.

EDGE -With Floss and size 5 hook, sc between 2 points, * (ch 1, sc in next st up point) 3 times, ch 1, 2 sc in point tip, ch 4, sl st in last sc for a p, 2 sc in same tip, (ch 1, sc in next st down other side of point) 3 times, ch 1, sc between points. Repeat from * around. Fasten off.

Rub inside of Cups with a pad of cloth dipped in hot, thick starch. As they dry, arrange in true shape with points curled over as in illustration.

Starting at center, ch 8. Join with sl st to form ring,

1st rnd: Ch 3, 23 dc in ring. Join with sl st to top of ch-3.

2nd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 3, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 1, half dc in first sc.

3rd rnd: * Ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 1, half dc in half dc.

4th rnd: * Ch 4, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 1, dc in half dc.

5th rnd: * Ch 5, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, dc in dc.

6th rnd: * Ch 7, Sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join.

7th rnd: Sl st in loop, * ch 3, 4 dc in same loop, 4 dc in next loop, ch 3, sc in same loop, ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3. Join.

8th rnd: Sl st in next 3 ch, ch 3, * dc in next 8 dc and in next ch, ch 8, dc in top of next ch-3. Repeat from * around. Join.

9th rnd: Sl st in next dc, ch 5, holding back on hook the last loop of each d tr make d tr in next 7 dc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (a cluster made), * ch 6, 10 d tr in next sp, ch 6, make a cluster over next 8 dc. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to tip of first cluster.

10th rnd: * Ch 12, d tr in next 8 d tr, ch 12, sc in tip of next cluster. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, d tr in tip of first cluster.

11th rnd: Ch 12, sc in next loop, ch 12, * cluster over next 8 d tr, (ch 12, sc in next loop) twice; ch 12. Repeat from * around. Join.

12th rnd: Sl st in next 2 ch, ch 3, 11 dc in loop, 12 dc in each loop around. Join.

13th rnd: * Ch 5, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

14th rnd: Sl st in next 2 ch, sc in same loop, * ch 5, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.
