Crocheting

Pop-Over Crochet Dress

Sizes: Small (Bust 32) – Medium (Bust 37) – Large (Bust 42) – Measurements of dress at bust

MATERIALS: 3, 3, 4–4 oz pull-skeins Jack Frost Wintuk knitting worsted type yarn;
“K” crochet hook.

GAUGE: 4 spaces = 3-1/2 inches

CHAIN 13 (small) – 16 (medium) – 19 (large).

BACK SHOULDER PIECE:
Row 1: 1 dc in 4th ch, * 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in 3rd ch, repeat from * 2, 3, 4 times.
Row 2: Ch 4, turn, 1 dc under ch 1 space, * 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc under next ch 1 space, repeat from * 1, 2, 3 times, ending, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc under ch 4 space.

REPEAT ROW 2 FOR PATTERN.

Work even in pattern until piece measures 3″. End off and cut yarn. Make a SECOND PIECE the same, but DO NOT CUT yarn.

Row 3: Ch 4, turn, work even in pattern to end, ch 15, 18, 21, * 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc under ch 1 space on other piece, work even in pattern to end.
Row 4: Ch 4, turn, work in pattern across 4, 5, 6, spaces. Work 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in second ch, * work 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in 3rd ch, repeat from * 3, 4, 5 times, work even in pattern across last 4, 5, 6, spaces. (13, 16, 19 spaces).

Work even in pattern until piece measures 7, 7-1/2″, 7-1/2″.

End off and cut yarn.

FRONT: Make 2 shoulder pieces the same as on the back, but 4″, 4-1/2″, 5″ long.
CONNECT the 2 pieces, the same as on the back. Work even until the front section measures 7, 7-1/2, 7-1/2 inches long, the same as the back. Work 1 row even across the front section. DO NOT END OFF.

UNDERARM:
Row 5: HOLDING FRONT PIECE, ch 15 (for underarm), work even in pattern across the back section, ch 15 (for underarm), join with a slip st in the ch 4 of the front piece. (Dress is now worked around, instead of back and forth).

Row 6: Ch 4, 1 dc in ch 1 space. Work even in pattern across front piece, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in second ch of underarm, * 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in 3rd ch, repeat from * 3 times, work even in pattern across back section, work across underarm section the same as before, join with a slip st in ch 4 of the front piece. (36, 42, 48 patterns). Work even for 4 rows.

Row 7: (INCREASE ROW): Ch 4, 1 dc under ch 1 space, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc under next ch 1 space, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc under next space, * 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc under next ch 1 space, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc under next ch 1 space, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc under next space, repeat from * around, join with a slip st. REPEAT Row 7 FOR PATTERN. Work even in pattern for 10 rows.

ROW 8: (INCREASE ROW): Ch 4, 1 dc under ch 1 space, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc under next ch 1 space, 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc under next space, * 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc under next ch 1 space, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc under next ch 1 space, 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc under next space, repeat from * around, join with a slip stitch. Repeat ROW 8 FOR PATTERN. Work even in pattern until piece measures desired length.

FINISHING: Sew shoulder seams. Work 1 row of shell stitch around neck and armholes.
Shell stitch-spacing evenly, 1 sc in hole, * 5 dc in hole, 1 sc in hole, repeat from * around.

Block with a damp cloth if necessary.

Evening Ensemble

Sizes: Small, Medium & Large

Note that no gauge or finished measurements are given in this pattern.

MATERIALS: 6–4 oz pull-skeins Wintuk Knitting Worsted by Jack Front (yarn is for both top & bottom). Size “J” crochet hook.

PATTERN STITCH:
Row 1: 3 dc in 3rd ch from hook, skip 3 ch, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next ch, (cluster made), * skip 3 ch, 7 dc in next ch (shell made), skip 3 ch, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next ch, (cluster), repeat from *, ending, skip 3 ch, 4 dc in last ch.

Row 2: Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in each of center 2 dc (of 4 dc), 1 cluster in next cluster, * 1 dc in each of center 5 dc of shell, 1 cluster in next cluster, * repeat from *, ending, 1 dc in last 2 dc, 1 dc in top of ch 3.

Row 3: Ch 4, turn, 1 dc in first dc, 1 shell in next cluster, * 1 cluster in center dc (of 5 dc), 1 shell in next cluster, * repeat from *, ending, 1 cluster in top of ch 3.

Row 4: Ch 4, turn, 1 dc in cluster, 1 dc in each of center 5 dc of shell, * 1 cluster in next cluster, 1 dc in each of center 5 dc of shell, * repeat from *, ending cluster in cluster.

Row 5: Ch 3, turn, 3 dc in cluster, 1 cluster in center dc (of 5 dc), * 1 shell in next cluster, 1 cluster in center dc (of 5 dc), * repeat from *, ending 4 dc in cluster.

REPEAT ROW 2–5 FOR PATTERN.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR TOP:

Chain 131 (small) 15 = full patterns, 2 = half patterns
Chain 147 (medium) 17 = full patterns, 2 = half patterns
Chain 163 (large) 19 = full patterns, 2 = half patterns

Work even in PATTERN for 21 rows, ending with pattern row 5.

DIVIDE FOR RIGHT ARMHOLE:
Row 2: Work beginning of row 2, work between the *’s 2, 2, 3 times, ending, 1 dc in 2nd, 3rd and 4th dc (of 7 dc), ch 4, turn and work rows 3, 4, 5 and 2 once.

FRONT OPENING:
Row 3: Work beginning of row 3, work between the *’s once, ending 1 cluster in center dc (of 5 dc). Work even in pattern until piece measures 7, 7-1/2, 8 inches.

LEFT ARMHOLE: Attach yarn in top of ch 3 on left side. Work same as for right armhole.

BACK: Leaving out 2 clusters for the armhole, attach yarn in 3rd dc (of 5 dc). Starting with pattern row 2, REPEAT between the *’s 5, 7, 7, times, ending 1 dc in 2nd, 3rd, and 4 dc (of 7 dc). Work even until piece measures the SAME as the front.

FINISHING: Sew shoulder seams. Work 1 row of shell stitch around top and armholes, spacing evenly as necessary.

Shell stitch: * 5 dc in shell, 1 sc in cluster, repeat from *.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SKIRT:

CHAIN 44 (small), 51 (medium), 59 (large).
Work Row 1 of pattern stitch. Work rows 2-7 of INCREASE ROW:

INCREASE ROWS:
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in each of 4 dc, 1 cluster in cluster, repeat between *’s of pattern Row 2, ending 1 dc in each of last 3 dc, 2 dc in top of ch 3.

Row 3: Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in first dc, 1 cluster in center dc (of 5), 1 shell in next cluster, repeat between *’s of pattern Row 3, ending, 1 cluster in center dc (of 5), 2 dc in top of ch 3.

Row 4: Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in first dc, repeat between *’s of pattern Row 4, ending, 1 cluster inc luster, 2 dc in top of ch 3.

Row 5: Repeat ALL OF PATTERN (NOT INCREASE) Row 3.
Row 6: Repeat ALL OF PATTERN (NOT INCREASE) Row 4.
Row 7: Repeat ALL OF PATTERN (NOT INCREASE) Row 5.

REPEAT INCREASE ROWS 2-7 ONCE.

Work even in pattern, starting with pattern Row 2, for desired LENGTH of skirt. MAKE 2 PIECES.

FINISHING: Sew sides. Work 2 rows of dc around top (waist band). Sew elastic at band if desired. Block with a damp cloth if necessary.

Seashell shift

Directions are for Small Size (8 to 10). Changes for Medium (12 to 14) are in parentheses.

GAUGE: On Size “I”: 1 ch-3 loop to 1 inch. On Size “J”: 2 ch-3 loops to 2-1/4 inches.

MATERIALS: Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz pull skein) or Nantuk 4-ply knitting yarn (2 or 4 oz pull skein) – 10 oz required for the dress.
Size “I” crochet hook for Small Size.
Size “J” crochet hook for Medium Size.

BACK: Ch 10 for first shoulder edge.
Row 1: 1 sc in 6th ch from hook, * ch 3, skip 1 ch, 1 sc in next ch, repeat from once, ch 5, turn.
Row 2: 1 sc in first ch-3 loop, * ch 3, 1 sc in next loop, repeat from * once, ch 5, turn.
Rows 3 through 9: Repeat Row 2 omitting ch 5 at end of Row 9 only. Fasten off.
Ch 10 for 2nd shoulder. Work same as before but do not fasten off, ch 5, turn.

NECK: 1 sc in first loop, * ch 3, 1 sc in next loop*, repeat from * to * once, ch 22, 1 sc in last ch-5 loop of other shoulder, repeat from * to * twice, ch 3, 1 sc in last sc, ch 5, turn.

BODY: Join in center ch at underarm.

MATERIALS:

GAUGE: 3 sc = 1 inch

INSTRUCTIONS FOR TOP:

BACK: With main color, ch 40, 46, 52, 58, 64
Row 1: 1 sc in the 2nd ch, 1 sc in each remaining chain.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each sc across, Piece will measure 13, 15, 17, 19, 21 inches wide.

Repeat Row 2 for pattern. Work even in pattern for 5 more rows. Work 2 rows of Color A, 2 rows of Main Color, 2 rows of B, 2 rows of A, 4 rows of B. Work even with main color until piece measures 18″.

ARMHOLES:
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, slip stitch across 4, 4, 4, 5, 5 stitches, 1 sc in each sc, not working the last 4, 4, 4, 5, 5 sc. (31, 37, 43, 47, 53 sc)
Row 4: Decrease row. Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in the second sc, 1 sc in each sc, not working the last sc. (1 sc decreased on each side). Repeat Row four 2, 2, 2, 3, 3 more times (25, 31, 37, 39, 45 sc). Work even until armhole measures 4, 4, 4-1/2, 4-1/2, 4-1/2.”
Row 5: Neck Shaping: Ch 1, turn, work across 9, 11, 13, 14, 16 sc.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in the 2nd sc, 1 sc in each remaining sc.
Row 7: Work even. Repeat Rows 6 and 7 – 2, 2, 3, 3, 4 more times. (6, 8, 9, 10, 11 sc). Work even until armhole measures 7, 7, 7-1/2, 7-1/2, 8″. End off.

OTHER SHOULDER: Attach yarn to the neck edge, leaving out 7, 9, 11, 1 1, 13 sc in the center. Starting with Row 5 work the other shoulder to correspond, reversing the shaping.

FRONT: Work the same as the back until the armhole decreasing is completed, Work even until armhole measures 3, 3, 3-1/2, 3-1/2, 4″. Work the neck shaping the same as the back, starting with Row 5. Work even until piece measures 7, 7, 7-1/2, 7-1/2, 8″. End off.

Work the other shoulder to correspond, reversing the shaping.

FINISHING: Sew the shoulder and the side seams. Work 1 row of sc around the neck and armhole edges. Block if necessary.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SKIRT (SIZES ABOVE): Skirt is planned for 18″ length. Make any adjustments before the decreasing.

CHAIN: 43, 49, 55, 61, 67. Starting with Row 1 of the top back, work even until piece measure 11″. Work even until piece measures 17-1/2″, decreasing 1 stitch each side every 5th row.

WAISTBAND: Work 1 row of dc. End off. Make 2 pieces.

FINISHING: Sew seams. Make a 5 foot chain using a double strand of yarn. Weave the chain through the waistband. Block if necessary.
