Crocheting

Elegant Snood

Snood may be worn loosely or around a ponytail. Fasten to hair with a pretty bow in a matching or contrasting color.

Designer Notes:

  • This pattern includes sufficient materials for small, medium, or large snood. Size variations are provided in the instructions.

  • Use a thread that drapes well. Designer used DMC Baroque. You could probably use pearl cotton or knit-cro-sheen too. Southmaid cotton is too stiff.

Materials:
Size #9 steel crochet hook
Size #10 cotton crochet thread –1/2 of one skein of DMC Baroque was plenty for the large snood (200 yds)
Elastic cord, about 10 inches of 1/4″
1/4″ width Ribbon in matching or contrasting color (optional).

Directions:
Rnd 1: Ch. 9, join to form ring. Ch 1, 18 sc inside ring. Join with sl st to first sc.
Rnd 2: *Ch 4, skip next sc. Sc in next. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. (9 loops)
Rnd 3: Sl. st. in next 2 ch. Sc in same sp. *Ch. 5, sc in next loop, repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, dc in first sc to create first loop of next rnd.
Rnd 4: Ch1 Sc in beginning loop. *Ch 7, sc in next loop, around, ending with ch 4, dc in first sc to first loop of next rnd.
Rnd 5: Repeat rnd. 4
Rnd 6: Ch. 1, sc in same sp, 7 sc in next sp. Ch 1, skip next sc. 7 sc in next loop, ch 1. around. Join with sl st to first sc. ( 63 sc, 9 ch sp.)
Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in same sp, *Ch 7, skip next 3 sc, sc in next sc, ch 7, skip next three sc, sc in ch sp, around, ending with Ch 4, dc in first sc to make first loop of next rnd. (18 ch lps)
Rnd 8-11: Sc in first loop. * ch 7, sc in next loop, around. Sl st in to first sc.
Rnd 12: repeat rnd. 6. (126 sc, 18 ch sps).

For the Bun cover: Stop now and work rnds 41 and 42. Then, thread about 8″ of cord elastic through rnd 41 and tighten to fit. sew elastic ends together securely.

To continue with the Snood,
Rnd 13: Repeat rnd. 7
Rnd 14-18: Repeat rnd 4, (36 ch lps).
Rnd 19: Repeat rnd 6.
Rnd 20: Sc in 4th sc of each 7-sc-loop.
Rnd 21-25: Repeat rnd 4
Rnd 26: Repeat rnd 6, (252 sc 36 ch sp).

Stop here for small snood. Skip ahead to Finishing Touches (below) and work rnds 41 and 42.

Rnd 27: Repeat rnd 20 (36 ch lps)
Rnd 28-32: Repeat rnd 4.
Rnd 33: Repeat rnd 6.

Stop here for medium snood Skip ahead to Finishing Touches (below).

Rnd 34: Repeat rnd 20
Rnd 35-39: Repeat rnd 4
Rnd 40: Repeat Rnd 6
Rnd 41: Ch 5, (counts as first dc and ch 2), *skip next 2 stitches, dc in next, ch 2, around. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch 5.
Rnd 42: Ch 1, sc in same st, ch 4, *sc in top of next dc, ch 4. Repeat from * around, join to first sc.

Finishing Touches: To finish snood weave 10″ of elastic through rnd 41, securely sew the ends together.

Ballet Bun Cover

This cover will keep your little girl’s ballet bun in place while she’s dancing!

Materials:
Approx 2 oz worsted weight acrylic yarn, in color to match ballet leotard.
Elastic hair band.
U.S. Size G-6 hook.

Directions:
Chain 4; join with a sl st to form a loop.
Rnd 1: Ch 6 (counts as dc, ch 3); in loop, (dc, ch 3) six times, dc in loop, (ch 1, dc) in top of first dc to join and form last loop: 8 loops made.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same loop, (Ch 3, sc) in next loop 7 times; (ch 1, dc) in top of first sc to join and form last loop.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same loop, (Ch 5, sc) in next loop 7 times; (ch 2, dc) in top of first sc to join and form last loop.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same loop, (Ch 7, sc) in next loop 7 times; (ch 2, tr) in top of first sc to join and form last loop.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in same loop, (Ch 5, sc) in next loop 7 times; (ch 2, dc) in top of first sc to join and form last loop.
Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in same loop, (Ch 4, sc) in next loop 7 times; (ch 2, dc) in top of first sc to join and form last loop.
Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in same loop, (sc in next sc, 3 sc in next loop) 7 times, sc in next sc, 2 sc in first loop; join with sl st to first sc.
Rnd 8: Ch 1. Working over elastic band, sc in each sc around, join with sl st to first sc, fasten off.

Ambar’s Simply Scrunchy #2

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn
Large ponytail elastic
F hook

Notes: I bunch up the stitches as much as I can, so that the scrunchie will be fluffier.

Directions:
Rnd 1: Join yarn around elastic with sc, ch 3 *(sc, ch 3) repeat from * around till ponytail holder is full. Join with a sl st at beg sc.
Rnd 2: Sl st in first ch 3 space, ch 1, sc in same space. (ch 3, sc in the next ch 3 space) around. Ch 3, sl st in the first sc.

You can stop and weave in ends, or continue with optional round 3.

Rnd 3: *Ch 3, sl st in the next ch sp, ch 3, sl st in the next sc *. Repeat from * to * around, ending with a sl st in the first sl st. Finish off and weave in ends.

Ambar’s Simply Scrunchy #1

Materials:
Worsted weight cotton yarn
Large ponytail elastic
F hook

Notes:
I bunch up the stitches as much as I can, so that the scrunchie will be fluffier.

Directions:

Rnd 1: Join yarn around elastic with sc and sc around the entire elastic. Make sure you have an even number of sc when done. Join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 2: Chain 3, dc 4 times in same st *(sk next sc, 5 dc in next sc). Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to beg ch 3. Finish off and weave in ends.
