Crocheting

Clover Motif – 1919

INSTRUCTIONS:

Startinq at bottom of pattern chain 64. Chain 3 to turn which will count as first double crochet of first row. Double crochet in 5th chain from hook. Double crochet in next 2 chains to complete bottom right solid square of pattern. Continue following pattern for first row reading pattern right to left. After completing first row, chain 3 to turn to start next row. Continue following pattern until all rows are complete. At end of row 22 fasten off. (See “How to read pattern” below)

MATERIALS (based on crochet cotton size):

Using Crochet Cotton no. 10: about 53 yds, steel crochet hook US size 7

Using Crochet Cotton no. 20: about 49 yds, steel crochet hook US size 9

Using Crochet Cotton no. 30: about 46 yds, steel crochet hook US size 11

APPROXIMATE FINISHED SIZES:

Usinq Crochet Cotton size 10: width = 4.8 inches, height = 5.5 inches

Using Crochet Cotton size 20 width = 4.6 inches, height = 5.3 inches

Using Crochet Cotton size 30: width = 4.4 inches, height = 5.1 inches

HOW TO READ PATTERN:

Each solid square is equal to 4 double crochets. Each open square is equal to 1 double crochet, followed by 2 chains followed by 1 double crochet. The double crochet at the end of each square also counts as the first double crochet of the next square. For example, a solid square followed by an open square is 4 double crochets, 2 chains, 1 double crochet. See diagram below:

Materials-Cotton, No. 16; one steel crochet hook, No. 6.

FIRST row- 8 ch., join into a ring.

Second row – 16 s. c. into the ring

Third row – 6 ch., 1 d. c. into second s. c., * 3 ch., 1 d. c. into second s.c.; repeat from * 6 times, 3 ch., join with a sl. st. into the third ch.

Fourth row – * 6 s. c. over the next three ch., turn, 6 ch., 1 s. c. into the first s. c., turn, 11 s. c. over the 6 ch.; repeat from * 8 times, join with a sl. st.

Fifth row – Work 6 sl. st.. around first little scallop, 7 ch., 1 d. tr. c. (thread over the hook 3 times) between 2 little scallops, * 4 ch., 1 d.c. into the sixth s.c. of the next little scallop, 4 ch., 1 d. tr. c. between the next 2 little scallops; repeat from * 7 times, 4 ch., join with a sl. st. into third ch.

Sixth row – S. c. into every stitch around, join into a sl. st.

Eleventh row – 5 ch., 1 d. c. into the third st., * 2 ch., 1 d. c. into the third st.; repeat from * around the square, working three d. c. into the corner sts., join with a sl. st. into third ch.

Twelfth row – 3 s. c. into every little hole around the square, working an extra s. c. into the corner sts. End off.

What You Need

Royal Society Six Cord Cordichet

If made with size 30, motif will measure 2 7/8 inches square.

Starting at center, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring.

1st rnd: 20 sc in ring. Sl st in 1st sc.

2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, sc in next 4 sc, * ch 8, turn, sl st in last sc made, ch 1, turn, 15 sc in loop, sc in next 5 sc. Repeat from * around, ending with sl st in 1st sc made.

3rd rnd: Sl st in next sc, sc in next sc, * ch 9, sc in center sc at top of next loop, ch 9, sc in center sc between loops. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

4th rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, 11 sc in each loop and sc in each sc around. Join.

5th rnd: Ch 8, * sc in center sc of next loop, ch 5, sk 5 sc, in next sc make dc, ch 5, dc; ch 5, sc in center sc of next loop, ch 5, sk 5 sc, dc in next sc, ch 5. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, sl st in 3rd st of ch 8.

6th rnd: Sl st in next 2 ch, sc in loop, ch 3, sc in same loop, ch 6, in next loop make sc, ch 3, sc; * ch 6, in next loop make cluster, ch 3 and cluster; Cluster: holding back on hook the last loop of each tr make 3 tr in same place, thread over and draw through all loops on hook; (ch 6, in next loop make sc, ch 3, sc) 4 times. Repeat from * aound ending with ch 2, tr in 1st sc made.

7th rnd: In sp (made by ch 2, tr) make sc, ch 3, sc; (ch 6, in next loop make sc, ch 3, sc) twice; * ch 6, in sp between clusters make cluster, ch 3 and cluster; (ch 6, in next loop make sc, ch 3, sc) 5 times. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

8th rnd: In sp make sc, ch 3, sc; (ch 6, in next loop make sc, ch 3, sc) 3 times; * ch 6, in sp between clusters make cluster, ch 5, cluster; (ch 6, in next loop make sc, ch 3, sc) 6 times. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 6, sl st in 1st sc made. Fasten off.

If you wish to make several of these motifs, join them at side loops(do not join corner loops).
