Hooded wrap coat

EASY- ANOTHER GREAT hooded granny square jacket!! Make this jacket out of Bernat Berella “4″ in your favorite colors!

SIZES: One size fits all. Garment width across back at underarms and hips, about 22″; each front, 14″.

MATERIALS: Bernat Berella “4″, one 4-oz. skein white (color A), 2 skeins gold (B), 3 skeins each scarlet (C) and navy (D). Crochet hook size G, or size required to crochet to gauge.

GAUGE: Each square = 5-1/2″.

SQUARES: Make 32. With A, ch 5; join with sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in center of ring, * ch 1, 3 dc in center of ring, repeat from * twice more, end ch 1; join with sl st in top of ch 3. Fasten off A. Turn.
Rnd 2: Join B in any ch-1 sp; (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same sp, sk 3 dc, * (3 dc ch 1, 3 dc) in next sp, sk 3 dc, repeat from * around; join with sl st in top of ch 3. Fasten off B. Turn.
Rnd 3: Join C in any ch-1 comer sp; (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same sp, * sk 3 dc, 3 dc in next sp between dc groups, sk 3 dc, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in comer ch-1 sp, repeat from * around, end sk 3 dc, 3 dc in next sp between dc groups; join with sl st in top of ch 3. Do not fasten off. Turn.
Rnd 4: Ch 3, 2 dc in first sp, * (sk 3 dc, 3 dc in next sp) to corner sp, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in corner sp, repeat from * around; join with sl st to top of ch 3. Fasten off C. Turn.
Rnds 5 and 6: Join D and work as for Rnd 4, except do not fasten off until end of Rnd 6.

ASSEMBLING: For Left Front, joining squares from corner ch-1 to corner ch-1, sew five squares in a row, picking up back lps only, to form vertical granny square stripe. For right front, work the same. For back, sew two strips of five squares each and join them side by side. For each sleeve, sew strip of three squares. For hood, sew two strips of three squares each and join the three-square sides, then fold one three-square edge in half and sew together for top edge, forming hood 1-1/2 squares wide (from front to back) and two deep.

BODY: With D, make two 28-ch pieces and put aside to be used in forming armholes later.
Stripe Row 1: Working along one long edge of left-front strip of squares, with D, beg in first ch-1 corner and picking up back lps only, ch 3 (counts as first dc), * dc in each dc along square, 1 dc in joining row, repeat from * to end of strip, end dc in ch-1 sp-96 dc. Ch 3, turn. Working through the dc of previous row, work one more row dc with D. Fasten off. Turn.
Rows 3 through 10: Working through the dc of previous row and starting each row with ch 3, work 2 rows with C, 1 row B, 1 row A, 1 row B, 2 rows C, 1 row D. Ch 3, turn. (Note: Row 10 ends at what will be the lower edge of coat.)
Row 11: Dc in 68 dc, leaving last 28 dc unworked for armhole. Ch 3, turn.
Rnd 12: Dc in 68 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Rnd 13: Dc in 68 dc, then dc across one of the 28-ch pieces for back edge of left armhole-96 dc. Fasten off D. (Left back started.)
Rows 14 through 22: Working as for front stripes, work 2 rows C, 1 row B, 1 row A, 1 row B, 2 rows C, 2 rows D. Sew back squares to Row 22, picking up back lps only. On other long edge of back, starting at lower edge, work stripes and armhole as on left side. Sew right front squares to Row 22. Fold each front over back at armholes and sew shoulder seams from armhole edge to center of front square.

HOOD: Sew neck of hood to coat, front edges tog, easing center back square of hood into back of coat.

Front and Hood Stripes: Starting at lower right front edge, working along entire front edges, including hood, work Stripe Rows 1 through 10 as on the body, then work 1 more row dc with D. Fasten off.

SLEEVES: Along each three-square edge of sleeves, work Stripe Rows 1 through 10, then work 1 more row with D and 1 with C. Fasten off, leaving an end to sew underarm seam. Sew sleeves into armholes.
